Not So Deep Thoughts 1-18-12

Genesis 43, 44 and 45

Well I am back.  Had a great time at the Scott Dawson Strength to Stand Conference the weekend.

As I read I read today’s chapters I am struck by the image of a whiny, spoiled-rotten brat of a kid named Joseph.  He was a definite, “Hey! Look at me!” kind of kid.  It just goes to show that the “all about me” movement started a long time ago.  Here he has the fancy coat and is the favorite.  Bet he didn’t have to work too hard.  He was telling his brothers about how they were going to bow down to him.  Yes God gave him the dream but he didn’t have to shove it in their faces.

Here you have this whiny kid that has an absolutely horrible time after his brothers had enough of his mouth and sold him into slavery.  What strikes me about this is the fact that after he was sold into slavery he did give up.  He made the best of his situation.  He waited for God to make things happen in His time, not Joseph’s time.  Joseph never asked to be made overseer of everything it just happened as Joseph went about his day.  He did keep whining to God to get him out of situation.  He kept honoring God and worked on the things that were right in front of him.

I don’t know about you but I get caught up in the woulda, coulda, shoulda and what ifs.  That keeps me from looking at what is right in front of me.  Do you find that to be true in your life?  I would love to hear from you on this.  I know I have to focus on the things that I can effect and change right in front of me.  I do not have the strength to do this alone, with God everything is doable.

In His Grip,

Kevin Peters
