Sermon Notes: Father, This I Need

Sermon Notes for April 23
Today we open into the second part of our Bible study journey on the major theme of “The Rescue Begins”. We will begin to look at the subject of “God Among Us” from the gospels. Our lesson comes from Matthew 4:17-22 and 9:9-13 which deals with Jesus calling His first disciples. The word “disciple” has a specific meaning that is important to understand in the context of Christianity. The way to become a disciple of Jesus is of grave importance and should never be taken lightly.

Here is the lesson outline (Session 7 on page 74):

I. Jesus Calls for Repentance (Matt. 4:17)

– What is repentance?
– Why did Jesus call for it?
– What are we to repent of?

II. Jesus Calls Unlikely People to Abandon All and Follow Him (Matt. 4:18-22)

– What does following Jesus have to do with it?

– Who can follow Jesus?

III. Jesus Calls Unpopular and Unexpected People to Follow Him (Matt. 9:9-13)

– Who is important to Jesus?

– For whom did Christ die? (1 Tim. 1:15)

From a quote in the lesson guide….”God promised forgiveness to your repentance, but He has not promised tomorrow to your procrastination.” – Roy B. Zuck (1932-2013)

God bless,

And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. – 2 Timothy 2:2 (HCSB)
